The amusement park formerly known as Korakuen reopened in 2003 as part of an amusement complex, with baseball stadium Tokyo Dome at its centre. The ultra-modern section, called LaQua, comprises a shopping centre, restaurants, the world’s first spokeless Ferris wheel and a hot mineral bath theme park where spring water is pumped up from an incredible 1,700m (5,670ft) below ground. Topping it all off is the Thunder Dolphin, a stunning urban rollercoaster that starts off higher than the Dome, leaps to the roof of the main LaQua building and plunges 80m through the centre of the Ferris wheel. For small kids, there’s Toys Kingdom, with room after room of toys and educational equipment, making the place a great rainy-day solution.
