Hermeto Pascoal is the ultimate reference, guru and living legend of a genre as universal as it is unattainable: Brazilian popular music. This tireless explorer of impossible rhythms, melodies and musical formulations may have celebrated his 80th birthday this year, but has lost little of the drive that made him an international phenomenon in the world of alternative music back in the '70s. Tradition and transgression, creativity and entertainment represent just a few of the principles that inform his method – which will hopefully be revealed in full over two January evenings at Shibuya's WWW X.
