It's been over a year since the last Kaikoo festival, a two-day bonanza held at Aomi Ferry Terminal, right on Tokyo Bay. Organisers DJ Baku and Popgroup had originally planned to hold the next one in June, but changed their minds after March 11 and pushed things back until the autumn. This year's Kaikoo Popwave Festival (it's pronounced keye-koh, meaning 'chance meeting') will take place indoors, albeit at ten different venues in the Dogenzaka area of Shibuya – an ambitious undertaking, to say the least. As with previous events, the programming is pretty eclectic, showing a vague bias towards hardcore, hip-hop and underground warhorses from the 1990s.
