Negoto

Well, it's certainly different. As they near the end of a year in which they've felled all contenders in the quest to become the next Chatmonchy, female quartet Negoto are hosting a minor battle of the sexes at WWW in Shibuya. They're only letting in women on the door at Friday's gig, which comes with support from – we kid you not – a recorder ensemble called Kuricorder Quartet. Saturday, meanwhile, is a men-only affair featuring a guest turn from Omikage Lucky Hole, a long-running soul-funk group with a nice line in lyrical perversity. Negoto's blandly effective pop-rock risks seeming a little anemic in comparison.
