Calling all fans of future funk and city pop – this New Year's Eve countdown is for you. Sailor Team and the Hong Kong-based Neon City Records are collaborating in a nostalgic evening of '80s music. The line-up includes Android52, Daviouxx and Macross 82-99, among other artists from Japan and Hong Kong.
For those not in the know, future funk, sometimes referred to as vaporwave, is a sub-genre of electronic music inspired by the aesthetics of anime from the 1980s as well as elevator jazz, thus resulting in chill beats. City pop, on the other hand, derives from R&B and Japanese electronic music from the 1980s. Definitely not Top 40 – but still very cool nonetheless.
