He's the Modfather no more: since entering his 50s, Paul Weller has been dabbling in new styles with an enthusiasm that's entirely at odds with the retrograde rock that he peddled during the previous decade. Starting with 2008's 22 Dreams, the former Jam frontman has incorporated everything from jazz to reggae to krautrock (!) into his palette – a trend that continued on this year's Sonik Kicks album. So much for maturing gracefully. Weller starts his Japan tour with two nights of gigs in Tokyo, featuring support from big-name local acts Okamoto's and The Hiatus on the Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
