Räfven

It's not quite a rags-to-riches story, but the tale of Räfven's success is heartening all the same. The group were scouted by promoters Smash to play at Fuji Rock Festival in 2009, and ended up performing eight times in the course of event – and, deservedly, shifting more CDs than any other band that year. When Räfven returned to Japan the following winter, they sold out their show here in Tokyo, and we wouldn't be surprised if they repeated the trick this time. The Swedish octet play an exuberant mash-up of gypsy music, punk and klezmer, like the soundtrack to the greatest Balkan drinking session you've never had.
