Time Out says

This one-act opera is based on the eponymous play by Oscar Wilde and is undeniably one of the most provoking and shocking works performed today, let alone when it made its debut in Paris in 1896. Inspired by a story in the New Testament, ‘Salome’ is about a girl who demands the head of Johanaan, a man whom she had been infatuated with, after he scorns her. While the opera involves unsavoury themes such as necrophilia and all-consuming obsession, this outré sensation proves to be endlessly popular with audiences for its exquisite composition by Richard Strauss and beautifully choreographed scenes such as the 'Dance of the Seven Veils'. This will be the seventh revival of August Everding's production at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, since its debut in 2000.

Note: Ticket sales begin 10am Jan 25.
