The Cigavettes

Sure, Ocean Colour Scene's second album had its moments, but is it really the kind of thing you'd want to base your whole career around? The Cigavettes are a perplexing proposition: a Fukuoka-born band so deeply in thrall to the sounds of mid-'90s Britpop that you half expect their songs to end with a jingle for The Evening Session with Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq. The group even has a pair of brothers at its core, although guitarist-songwriter Kanji Yamamoto and singer Masayuki don't seem to be prone to Oasis-style sibling spats. This is the final date in a tour for The Cigavettes' eponymous debut album, released on their own KT Records label.
