Ulterior/The Novembers/Lilies and Remains

London four-piece Ulterior emerged from the same mid-2000s Shoreditch scene as The Horrors and These New Puritans, but they've so far failed to achieve a similar level of renown. Whether upcoming sophomore album The Bleach Room does much to change that remains to be seen, but its muscular, 21st century take on Sisters of Mercy-style Goth is surprisingly fab. Hopefully the band will manage to pick up a Japanese following when they play here this weekend, on a short tour with local alt rockers The Novembers and post-punks Lilies and Remains.
