Underrated

London trio Maria & The Mirrors create a righteously messed-up kind of dance music, all drones, slabs of noise and pummeling tribal rhythms courtesy of drummers Keira Fox and Chrystabel. If the end results intermittently recall Factory Floor, Gang Gang Dance and Throbbing Gristle, apparently the group don't have such lofty ambitions – they admitted in an interview earlier this year that their main goal was to 'get a free trip to Japan by banging on some drums'. And they seem to have succeeded: you can catch the group at Club Asia this weekend, where they'll be performing alongside local post-punk posers Lilies and Remains and Sekaiteki na Band.
