Perfect for those cold autumn evenings, Ibaraki's anko (anglerfish) nabe is usually served with ample tofu, veg and mushrooms to go with the, well, interesting mash of collagen-rich fish innards. To sample this seasonal special, head up to Saitama's Super Arena on a November Tuesday, when the plaza in front of the stadium will be taken over by chefs from all over Ibaraki, all serving their own versions of the hot pot dish. The first 1,500 visitors can get their fill for a mere ¥100, while regional favourites like grilled ham and Ryugasaki croquettes will also be available.
