To celebrate the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Tokyo is holding a free exhibition of photos of Hungarian athletes participating in the Games.
The event starts before you even walk through the door, as the institute has decorated its façade with photos of Hungarian sportspeople, the national flag and words of encouragement. The hall on the first floor has huge bean bags on which you can take a break while admiring the photographs of participating athletes. These portraits are accompanied by personal stories.
Team Hungary has won a total of 491 medals (175 gold, 147 silver, 169 bronze) since first participating at the 1896 Olympic Games, principally in fencing and swimming. This year, the country has 176 athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics, where Áron Szilágyi has already won gold in individual men’s sabre fencing, making him the first male fencer in history to win three gold medals in an individual event.
