This event is run by the Kanto Regional Forest Office Takao Forest Center. Charcoal is made in pots made from oil drums, and it’s a fun way to learn more about the outdoors. Charcoal can absorb odours and humidity, so you can use it to freshen up your home. The event is only open to 30 participants. Those interested should send a reply-paid postcard (ofuku-hagaki) with the name of the event and the addresses, postcodes, names and ages (or school grades) of all the applicants on the side to be sent, write a return name and address on the side to be sent back, and send it to the Takao Forest Center (Takao Shinrin Center in Japanese) by Thursday November 18. If there are more than 30 applicants, participants will be chosen by ballot.
