Call For Submissions: Intersections In Dance Curated By Mary Ma says
Xpace Cultural Centre seeks submissions by emerging and/or student artists on the subject of dance and its intersections in contemporary art. The exhibition hopes to explore how the individual or collective body is engaged in the methodologies, practices, forms, and techniques of dance, and how contemporary art practices frame or is influenced in the process of multi-disciplinary collaboration or contact/exchange. Curated by Mary Ma, the exhibition will run from July 18-August 26, 2017. Work in all mediums will be considered (including, but not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance).

Works are non medium specific and can engage with ideas of the choreographed body, the improvising body, and/or the body situated in relation to space, site, time. Proposals can also examine how the body is embodied or embedded in place, architectures or geographies through the lens of dance practices.

The exhibition hopes to explore ways non-verbal codes of meaning is conveyed, where the individual or collective body becomes the dominant form of communication and is a proposal or enactment for critical response: How have artists interpreted or reflected on dance and its methodologies, and how can this intersection be utilized as leverages for reflection, critique, subversion, reconciliation, or instruments for poetics or power.

Works must be ready for exhibition by July 10, 2017. Selected artists will be notified in March 2017. All selected participants will be paid a project fee for the exhibition.
