Her Story Presents: Angry Inuk says
6:00PM: pre-film reception with REEL CANADA
6:30PM: films start!

Our passion for documentary film and powerhouse women behind the camera inspired us to curate a series that celebrated successful women filmmakers in the doc sector. Thus, HER-STORY was born!

We will be starting with a short film WE MAKE STORIES OUT OF TOTEM POLES, directed by Patricia Marcoccia and Sean Stiller. This film tells the story of Charles, a survivor of residential school, and known for his master carving skills in Vancouver Island. The film explores his past, present, and future through the art form of carving totem poles.

This will be followed by our feature presentation: ANGRY INUK (dir. by Alethea Baril).

Winner of Hot Docs best Canadian film 2016, ANGRY INUK takes us on a journey to northern Canada, a place that is so misunderstood by the rest of the world. Here, Alethea tells us the real story behind seal hunting, an Inuit tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. Grossly misrespreented by celebrated activists, the commercial seal hunting business has suffered a blow from giants like Greenpeace.

So, will Patricia, Sean, and Alethea be at the screening? You bet they will. Alethea has agreed to Skype in (weather dependent). So please stay after the film screening for a short, lively panel discussion!

Looking forward to clebrating women in documentary with you! Keep an eye on this page for more updates!
