CONTACT Photography Festival says
At a time when the presentation of documentary and news photography is experiencing enormous change due to technological developments, alternative approaches to storytelling are being explored around the world. Speakers Benjamin Petit, (#Dysturb), Stephen Mayes (Tim Hetherington Trust), and Rafael Katigbak (VICE), will discuss these changes. Moderated by Toronto journalist Christopher Frey.

Free and open to the public.

Chris Frey is a Toronto-based writer, editor, and radio producer. Currently the Toronto correspondent for Monocle, he’s a six-time National Magazine Award–winner and has contributed to The Guardian, The Walrus, Globe and Mail, Icon, Azure, and CBC Radio. Chris was also the founding editor-in-chief of the influential online magazine Hazlitt.

Raf Katigbak is the Senior Editor at VICE Canada. He's worked with the magazine for over a decade and has helped produce and curate the annual VICE Photo Show for the last several years.

Stephen Mayes is Executive Director of the Tim Hetherington Trust. He has worked at the top levels of photography for 25 years, in the areas of journalism and art, among others and most recently as CEO of VII photo Agency. He served as Secretary to the World Press Photo competition from 2004 to 2012. Stephen regularly writes and broadcasts on the ethics and realities of photographic practice in the new digital environment.

Benjamin Petit is a French photojournalist based in Brooklyn. He is the #Dysturb US manager. He has been producing reportage in Yemen, Morocco, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and the USA, where he contributes to the New York Times and Newsday on a regular basis. His work is represented by Haytham Pictures and Redux.
