The Royal Cinema - Toronto says
Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski of Astron-6 break away from their usual comedy beats to bring us the '80s-inspired horror hit THE VOID. Aaron Poole stars as a small-town cop named Daniel Carter, who begins his plunge into hell after he finds an injured man beside his cruiser. He takes the man to a local hospital, which is running on a skeleton-crew because of an imminent closure, and there finds himself forced to interact with his estranged wife, Allison (Kathleen Munroe), because she is one of the only people on staff. Everything seems manageable in spite of the short-staffing, that is, until the group realizes that a cultish crew of people has amassed outside, donning creepy white robes. From there begins an irrevocable hell night, taking notes from H.P. Lovecraft, John Carpenter, Stuart Gordon and Lucio Fulci to create one of the most interesting and petrifying horror films to hit the big screens in a long time.
