Nancy Hughes began dancing when she was 4 because her mom put her in dance classes. Over the years she has found that improvisation is her preferred dance practice. In the late 90's she was introduced to contact improv at Texas Woman's University, where she graduated with a BA in Dance. Nancy's dancing and teaching is influenced by Nancy Stark Smith, Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser and all the people that she has danced with at Jams and Underscores in the world -- especially Buffalo! In 2009 she made a promise to herself that she would practice contact improv regularly. This promise was the impetus to co-start the Buffalo Sunday Contact Improv Jam. She also produces an annual ci intensive called Mission Improvable, and it will be January 27-31, 2016. Mission Improvable: Embodying Contact will be led by Alicia Grayson with guest teachers Avery Ryder Turner and Vivek Patel.
