Edge Codes: Beyond the Cut

Movies, Documentary

Time Out says

Those prone to epileptic seizures or unpleasant flashbacks to Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers are hereby warned: Shuper's documentary about the history of film editing sure has a lot of flashy scissor work—and not just in terms of well-chosen examples. The first minute alone pummels your eyeballs into submission: a relentless assault of movie clips, sound bites, Janet Leigh getting it in the shower and surely about 800 other pieces of presumably germane material. If you can wade your way through the waves of slickness, though, there's much value here, including interviews with top cutters like Raging Bull's Thelma Schoonmaker.
