Time Out says

In between the Colette novella and the MGM musical came this quite intelligent elaboration, from which Alan Jay Lerner borrowed extensively. Fifteen-year-old Gilberte - Gigi - is being raised by her all-female family for the role of 'petite amie', shortly to be assigned to an acceptable man of means, such as Gaston, the handsome sugar millionaire. Things, of course, work out differently. Unfortunately, Delorme adolescent spontaneity lacks ... spontaneity. Well, she was 22 at the time. But de Bray is superb as the girl's grandmother. And the period detail - the horse-drawn bathing machines, the new Eiffel Tower restaurant, the skating fad - is quite evocative.
