Kamp Katrina

3 out of 5 stars
An apolitical vérité take on New Orleans post-Katrina, this doc will likely leave viewers devastated—and numb. Warm, colorful Ms. Pearl and her surly contractor husband invite displaced citizens interested in the rebuilding effort to set up camp in their backyard. But these sad survivors have little to offer Pearl’s beloved city aside from drunken brawls, petty theft and crack-addicted babies. Initially raw and unsettling but ultimately monotonous, the film feels as unfocused as its subjects.
