A characteristically anarchic comedy from the duo behind ‘Aaltra’ and ‘Louise-Michel’, this boasts Gérard Depardieu as a lumbering, long-haired abbatoir worker who hits retirement age (cue the first of many darkly hilarious scenes) and, egged on by a clearly pissed-off wife (Yolande Moreau), takes to the road on his motorbike in search of the paperwork that will enable him to claim his pension. So begins a series of adventures and encounters, mainly a haunting reminder of what he’s lost over the years but also, very often, bizarrely and even outrageously funny (one scene with an elderly relative is particularly memorable). Wayward, weird, and sometimes quite wonderful.
