The work of wildly prolific crime writer Donald E Westlake has been repeatedly plundered for the screen. Some of the results are rewarding (Jean-Luc Godard's 'Made in USA', John Boorman's 'Point Blank'), others less so (Brian Helgeland's 'Payback'). Well, Hollywood is taking another shot at turning the adventures of Westlake's infamous anti-hero Parker into a franchise with the bluntly titled 'Parker' (there's clearly something in the water in Hollywod these days, because this is the third recent crime adaptation to be named after its central character, following 'Jack Reacher' and 'Alex Cross'). 'Ray' director Taylor Hackford takes the helm, while a fairly strong cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Michael Chiklis and Jason Statham as the titular hard-bitten crook. But will The Stath attempt an American accent again? Let's hope not.
