Time Out says
Why call it a movie when it’s really more of an extended, cutesy TV episode that ought to come with a laugh track and a vibrator? It takes a sexually shielded Doris Day fan to believe Jenny from the Block could require the services of a professional baster to get knocked up—or that shirtless hunk Alex O’Loughlin could be the instantly smitten guy who inconveniently drops into her cab on the way home. The only aspects marking The Back-Up Plan as modern (not fresh) are its skanky wallowings in hormonal urges and an equally sour penchant for potshots at the target audience: women who want to be mothers.
