After meticulous preparation, two men (Marsan, Compston) kidnap a young woman (Arterton), handcuff her to a bed and email the photographic evidence to her wealthy father. All is not straightforward in this resourceful thriller, which reveals sundry secret agendas and shifting loyalties as the first-time writer-director extracts more mileage from this three-hander than we’ve any right to expect. The impeccable cast play it all to the hilt, yet somehow the portentously academic direction only serves to make the contrivances more obvious. It plays, but can’t help feeling like an extended ‘Tales of the Unexpected’ helmed by a talented acolyte of Michael Haneke.
