The 2024 total solar eclipse is just a few weeks away, and anticipation is growing for the big event. No doubt you’ve already made plans for how and when to watch the eclipse, perhaps even making travel plans to head to one of the best states to watch the eclipse. But recently, a number of eclipse warnings have been issued. No, these warnings are not due to any danger caused by the eclipse itself, they’ve been issued in order to prepare residents in the path of totality for the influx of eclipse-chasers to their cities and towns. It’s always good to be prepared, so grab your eclipse glasses and read on for everything you need to know. When is the 2024 solar eclipse? The 2024 solar eclipse will take place Monday, April 8, 2024. What emergency warnings have been issued? Most of the U.S. will witness at least a partial eclipse on April 8, but those lucky cities and towns in the path of totality will experience nearly five minutes of darkness during the event. Given the rarity of this event, millions of people are expected to be watching, whether from their own homes or traveling somewhere to see it. The first major warning issued is for drivers. It seems obvious, but the Federal Highway Administration has issued a warning: don’t watch and drive. "Don't watch the eclipse while driving, and don't stop on the interstate or highway shoulder," said Shailen Bhatt, the Federal Highway Administrator, in a briefing on Friday. "Please, plan ahead to arrive early and, if you can, stay put

These states are in the path of totality. If you’re there, you’ll be able to see the total eclipse as the moon passes between Earth and the sun, completely obscuring the sun. Other states will see a partial eclipse. If the weather cooperates, Texas, specifically Hill Country, is the number one best state for viewing the total eclipse. In some parts of Texas, totality will last upwards of four and a half minutes. Texas is known for dry, sunny weather, so here’s hoping that’s what we’ll get during the eclipse. Other states will see shorter durations of totality, but totality nonetheless. Seeing the eclipse in a city versus a rural area is a matter of personal preferenc

Life is expensive these days, from buying groceries to going out to restaurants to paying rent. In fact, the cost of rent has been skyrocketing, with rates going up in more than half of counties across the nation since 2020. As workers re-evaluate priorities, there's growing attention to the places that offer low housing costs while still paying workers well—and without sacrificing vibrant culture, immersive museums and award-winning restaurants.  So what are these cities we speak of? A recent report from RentHop evaluated median incomes and median rents to identify the cheapest places to live across the U.S. for single renters. While some are to be expected—bustling cities in the heartland and away from the pricey coasts—others are more surprising, including newer tech hubs like Seattle and Austin. Here are the top 10 cheapest places to live in the U.S., according to the study.

Fast food can get a bad rap. Sure, it's usually not the healthiest option for something to eat—but it's always there when you need it, like when you're on a road trip, are hungover, have a case of the late-night munchies or simply need food that's quick—and cheap.  And out of all the countries in the world, America has fast food on lock. We're home to the OGs like McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell. But across the country, there is a slew of smaller-scale regional favorites, like Maid-Rite and Culver's in the Midwest, Zaxby's and Whataburger in the South, or In-N-Out in California. Then we have the higher class breed, like Burger haven Shake Shack. Out of the many fast-food chains, we've ranked our favorites—and called out the must-order dishes at each from the potato olés at Taco John's to the spicy chicken sandwich at Popeyes. Read our list of best fast food restaurants, and prepare to get hungry.

Taco Bell fans are a loyal bunch. By the last count, the average Taco Bell customer visits the fast food chain every 11 days. Even more impressive, by the company's estimates, around half the U.S. population visits the restaurant every month.  Why so much love for the Bell? For starters, it's hella good. Each menu item packs in a symphony of flavor and texture—cheesy, crunchy, salty, spicy—mashed up in various formats that are easy to take to-go and supremely satisfying to eat. A Dorito-flavor taco? Yes, please. Mexican pizza? Absolutely. A tortilla shell wrapped in a pillowy soft gordita and packed with the most delicious sauce known to mankind? Hang on, on my way to my nearest Taco Bell. Be aware: the chain likes to keep its customers on their toes by discontinuing some fan favorites and bringing them back at various times. The way they play with our hearts, and stomachs, is possibly part of the allure. With their bold flavors, innovative twists and irresistible combos, it's a hard task to say which Taco Bell menu items are the absolute best. But we've taken on the difficult yet important work of evaluating all of the dishes at Taco Bell—and ranking them from worst to best. Did your go-to order make the cut? Take a look and see if you agree with our line-up.

So many of us crave to see the Northern Lights that we’re willing to book a vacation to be closer to the north where they can be seen. The phenomenon, also called Aurora Borealis, is where dramatic ribbons of lime, rose and other colors can be seen moiling in the sky, rewarding us with a sense of awe and a closeness to the beauty of our universe. The experience can be moving and leave us with a sense of gratitude for our complex universe. Also, have you met STEVE? He’s an atmospheric optical phenomenon, and his name is an acronym for “strong thermal emission velocity enhancement.” That means he is a purple and green light stripe or arc in the sky—what a life—named in 2016 by folks in Alberta, Canada, enjoying his lovely light. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland is studying the phenomenon using the fun acronym. Now, brace yourself: the Northern Lights may appear less dramatic in real life than in photographs because cameras have more photoreceptors than our eyes—don’t be surprised if you see something more gray than neon. But many people feel that seeing them, even if they aren’t as brilliant as in a photograph, is impossible to describe or match. Just another drop in the bucket list! Make sure to check each destination for weather conditions and timing to give yourself the best chance of seeing them. RECOMMENDED: The best places for stargazing in the U.S.
