Are you the kind of person who likes to know which travel destinations are trending, so you can have your vacation choice validated and know you’ll have lots of fellow travelers to meet? Or does hearing that a destination is trending make you want to go everywhere but? Either way, we’ve got you covered with thee top 10 trending destinations this winter according to Tripadvisor.

Tripadvisor calculated these cities based on seeing the greatest year-over-year growth in online searches for these cities, from December 2022 through February 2023. The results are kind of surprising! We'd expect to see, of course, winter travel standards like New York and Orlando—but they're not there. And the #1 city is not the average ‘go to.’

Further down the list can be found some other unexpected destinations (some of these places aren't even warm!). We tip our hat to South Carolina, the only state with two cities listed here. This is a fun assortment of cities we all need to take a closer look at. We know you're burning to know that #1 surprise city, so here we go!

Top 10 Trending US Destinations This Winter

1. Chattanooga, TN
2. Virginia Beach, VA
3. Milwaukee, WI
4. Indianapolis, IN
5. Hilton Head, SC
6. Minneapolis, MN
7. Albuquerque, NM
8. Jekyll Island, GA
9.  Charlotte, NC
10. Myrtle Beach, SC

Other fun info from Tripadvisor? Their seasonal travel index reveals that 59 percent of Americans are planning to travel this winter. And of those, 78 percent plan to travel within the states. We need to work on our bravery a little bit: 73 percent of Americans plan to visit a place they’ve already been to before. So maybe looking at that trending list will inspire you to try a new destination!

Speaking of bravery, did you know a lot of people show up at the airport without a destination in mind? It's true
