Boston’s Tom Borgia uses Cholula to bring some Latin flair to the table
With our Battle of the Burger series in full swing—which will see top chefs in L.A., Chicago and New York go head-to-head to be voted the best of the best—we've teamed up with Cholula® Hot Sauce to challenge chefs across the country to put a unique spin on the classic American burger. Here, Steven Banbury of Dallas' Hopdoddy Burger Bar uses almost every flavor of Cholula to give this mouthwatering burger one power-packed bite. Check out the step-by-step recipe video here.
Step one: Cholula Chipotle Aioli
¼ cup Cholula Chipotle Hot Sauce
3 roasted garlic cloves, mashed
1 cup mayo
½ lime, juiced
¼ tsp salt
Mix all ingredients in a small-sized mixing bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step two: Fire Roasted Corn and Cholula Chili Lime Salsa
¼ cup Cholula Chili Lime Hot Sauce
2 cobs fire roasted corn (2 cups)
¼ cup cilantro
½ cup pickled red onion
½ lime, juiced
¼ tsp salt
Remove corn from cobs, and dice the cilantro and onion. Mix all ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step three: Cholula Chili Garlic Tequila Ketchup
¼ cup Cholula Chili Garlic Hot Sauce
1 cup ketchup
½ cup 1800 Añejo Tequila
Mix all ingredients in a small-sized mixing bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step four: Cholula Green Pepper Beef
¼ cup Cholula Green Pepper Hot Sauce
1 lb. ground beef
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
Combine ingredients together in a large-sized mixing bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste, and form into 2 patties.
Step five: Assemble the Cholula Luau Burger (makes 2 servings)

Slice Pepper Jack Cheese
8oz. Cholula Green Pepper Patty
Fire Roasted Corn and Cholula Chili Lime Salsa
Beefsteak Tomato Slice
Green Leaf Lettuce
Cholula Chipotle Aioli
Egg Bun Bottom
Place patty onto grill, add Pepper Jack cheese, and cook until desired temperature. Medium recommended. Add Cholula Chipotle Aioli, lettuce, tomato and Fire Roasted Corn and Cholula Chili Lime Salsa to the bottom bun. Place cooked Cholula Green Pepper burger on the bottom half. Add some Cholula Chili Garlic Tequila Ketchup to the burger, place top bun on top, and enjoy.
