Time Out says

Founded in Los Angeles at the dawn of the 80s, Gagosian Gallery introduced California (and the world) to the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Robert Longo, and David Salle, among other modern masters, and in turn became an art world institution. After launching successful galleries in New York City, Gagosian finally returned home to LA in 1995, opening a new gallery in Beverly Hills designed by Richard Meier and featuring an inaugural show by Frank Stella. A far cry from its humble beginnings on Almont Drive, the new space has since hosted museum- quality exhibitions and become the gold standard of Los Angeles galleries, with UCLA-bred proprietor, Larry Gagosian, the undisputed king of art dealers.
