Looking for a pocket-friendly break? While the wintry months may bring falling mercury and lashing rain, they are also accompanied by fantastic special offers at luxury hotels across the Cape, as hoteliers look to fill beds during the quiet winter months.

Right now the luxury hotel group Tintswalo is offering superb deals at both of its iconic properties in Cape Town: Tintswalo Atalntic boutique hotel outside Hout Bay, and the villa-style Tintswalo Boulders overlooking the penguins of Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town

Tintswalo Atlantic should be on the bucketlist of anyone with a taste for luxury stays, and the seaside setting of this boutique bolthole makes it well worth the spend. Tintswalo Atlantic’s winter special (valid until end-August) offers a night in their gorgeous seafront suites; along with include a welcome bottle of wine in every room, as well as sunset canapés and a cocktail of the day. You’ll then enjoy a gourmet journey with the ‘Tapas for 2’ menu at Chefs Warehouse Tintswalo Atlantic, before a great night’s sleep and an extravagant breakfast enjoyed overlooking the ocean. At R9440 for two people sharing per night it’s a splurge, but well worth it.

Over on the False Bay coastline Tintswalo Boulders is less dramatic, but no less indulgent. Here you’ll want to gather the family and friends for a low-key seaside escape set just steps from the famous sands of Boulders. And, of course, the braying locals. The winter deal includes sundowner canapés, a three-course family-style dinner, and an indulgent breakfast. Rooms range from R4040 to R5000 per night for two people sharing, depending on the room category.

Prefer more of a city vibe? The Kloof Street Hotel has a clutch of special rates on offer for local residents, with prices up to 60% off the usual rate in the peak summer season. You can stay in one of their en-suite Pod Rooms for as little as R822 per person per night, including breakfast, with the street-wise charms of the inner-city right on your doorstep.

Down the road in Loop Street the Pepper Club and Cayenne Spa offer a winter wellness deal that includes accommodation in a variety of luxe rooms and suites – including breakfast at COPA Retsaurant downstairs, or in your room. But this is a wellness break, so you’ll also enjoy a 60-minute Swedish Massage at Cayenne Spa, and access to the fully-equipped gym, sauna and pool facilities. You can also book private use of the private in-house cinema, The Odeon. Rates start from R2 990 per night, for two.

Out at Century City the Island Club Hotel is upping the ante for date night, encouraging locals to turn it into an entire weekend with their Weekend Winter Special. For R1800 per night per couple you’ll enjoy a luxury room for two, breakfast, in-room snacks, an arrival gift and a pair of movie tickets for a nearby theatre.

Of course also don’t forget that from June 14-28 the new EAT SLEEP DRINK initiative from the Franschhoek Wine Valley will see a range of restaurants, hotels and guesthouses offer a range of discounts to curious epicureans. There are 11 restaurants and 17 participating hotels and guesthouses all offering a 20 percent discount on direct bookings.
