In the last quarter of the year, the rehabilitation works on the Cascais promenade will begin, the 2750 meter stretch that connects Conceição Beach (Cascais) and Azarujinha Beach (São João do Estoril). A proposal for the public tender was approved by the municipality, with the project budgeted at nearly 22 million euros and an execution period of 900 days. "After overcoming all the constraints of an international public tender, we believe that the work can start in the last quarter of 2024", said Cascais vice-president Nuno Piteira Lopes to Lusa news agency.

The project involves "replacing all pavement with deactivated concrete flooring, upgrading public lighting with the installation of photovoltaic systems and LED lamps and refurbishing rest areas with the renewal of urban furniture and fitness facilities."

Due to the timing overlapping with periods of high beach attendance, the municipality warns that they will try "not to interfere intensively during next year's bathing season". However, the intervention is inevitable, as the structure "has been deteriorating due to heavy usage and erosion caused by the sea and sand" in recent years, as stated in a note issued by the municipality.

Lastly, there is also the "creation of several green areas with native species, aimed at making the seawall more sustainable", explained Piteira Lopes, also announcing the "installation of video surveillance cameras along the entire route".
