Santa Cruz Church

Santa Cruz Church review Rate it

Descendants still remain of the Portuguese Catholics who built this church and convent, known as 'Wat Kudee Jeen'. Often rebuilt since King Taksin donated them the land, the current pastel edifice topped by an octagonal dome dates from 1916. A ferry from Tha Rachini serves the church's pier. Some shops nearby still bake Khanom Farang Kudi Jeen, sponge cakes of apple and jujube made to the recipes of Portuguese mercenaries who defended Ayutthaya from Burma.
