The late Thai-Chinese millionaire Udom Patpongpanit turned banana groves into a playground for locals, expats and aircrews. Patpong went a-go-go in the late 1960s as US GIs flocked here on R&R from the Vietnam War. The 'Pong later blanded out into a Disneyfied coach party stop, flogging tit and tat to tourists. Guys gawp through doors at lacklustre pole-dancing and novelty sex shows in Patpong Soi 1, while open-air bar-beers on Patpong Soi 2 take drinkers to wherever they want to go.
