Phyathai Palace

Phyathai Palace review Rate it

A getaway of King Rama V, this European-style complex became a luxury hotel, then Thailand's first radio station, then a hospital, and now a museum. Amid restored halls, turrets and filigree pavilions, the fading frescoed corridors lend poignancy to the place where King Rama VI experimented with democracy at a miniature town called Dusit Thani, which had its own economy and newspaper. It houses the Army Medical Corps Museum and hosts concerts in the neo-classical grounds. Tours in English require a written request a week ahead (B500 per 10-15 persons).
