At a supermarket, we sample food; at Sample This! Live, we sample new music. Simple as that – Sample This! Live is a music event where you’ll be able to enjoy live music performances put on by talented local musicians, particularly around the genre of electronic music.
“At its core, the goal of Sample This! Live is to bring together musical acts that we personally love, and form a community that grows as we do more shows,” says Ming En, co-founder of the gig.
Everyone is welcome to hang out, grab a beer, meet like-minded folks and simply enjoy the music. The event began as an intimate gathering with no more than 50 attendees at Saylah Studios. Now, in its second edition, it will accommodate up to 150 people at the Phil Studio performing arts centre.
The lineup features four local emerging musicians: Mingzxc serving us ambient-techno-lofi goodness, Genesis Keeper bringing us ambient and experimental tunes, Monozerra blowing our minds with genres drum and bass, and intelligent dance music, and lastly Tomoblu delivering alternative and breakbeats themes.
Besides bringing uncharted local music to the people, Sample This! Live also serves as a platform for local musicians to showcase their work. “As musicians ourselves, we understand the struggles of finding opportunities to perform. There’s so much intangible value and experience that artists gain when they perform live,” Ming En adds.
