BASSINTHEGRASS is back for another tropical romp this year, with an expansive line-up of Australian and local artists, the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets and the Good Tides Sunset Beach Club all packed into one huge day. The beachside festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year off the back of sold-out runs in 2019, 2021 and 2022 (there was no event in 2020).

As the biggest music festival in the Northern Territory, BASSINTHEGRASS promises a balmy day by the beach with a zero per cent chance of mud. So leave your gumboots at home and get ready to plan your unforgettable day.

We’ve gathered the answers to your most pressing questions about BASSINTHEGRASS, so the only thing you need to worry about is booking your ticket before they’re all gone.

The BASSINTHEGRASS crew have put together a cracker of a lineup for this year’s festival, including LGBTQIA+ and Indigenous artists. The line-up is too vast to capture it all here, but we’d be remiss not to drop some of the huge Aussie names on the list like Baker Boy, Guy Sebastian, the Presets and Tones and I, just to name a few.

Indie fans will enjoy sets from Melbournian Steph Strings, Fremantle foursome Spacey Jane and Sydney siblings Angus and Julia Stone.

If pop is more your style, Gold Coast born superstar Amy Shark and Adelaidian TikTok sensation Peach PRC will be there to get you dancing. Sydney’s MAY-A will also be performing her astute indie-pop vignettes. No matter your taste in tunes, this overflowing line-up will be sure to delight your ears.

Where else but Darwin can you find a beachside festival in a tropical climate, that’s just a few minutes drive from the city centre? There will be plenty of free buses to and from the festival, so just hop on and you’ll be taking in the stunning beach views in no time.

BASSINTHEGRASS is held at magical Mindil Beach on Larrakia Land and the organisers have invited local Elders to conduct a Welcome to Country and Salt Water Ceremony.

Darwin’s weather is wonderfully predictable, so you can expect somewhere around 32 degrees – not too cold or too hot and perfect for debuting a stylish festival fit. Better yet, Darwin only has two seasons: wet and dry. BASSINTHEGRASS falls in the dry season, so there will be none of those annoying plastic ponchos in sight. Instead, there’ll be palm trees gently waving over you as you revel in the mosh pit.

If you’re still on the fence about heading to BASSINTHEGRASS, don’t forget that the Top End is an enviable destination in itself. There are countless activities available to you in the lead-up to the festival. Why not head out to Litchfield National Park and have a dip under a waterfall?

If you're a thrillseeker, swim with crocodiles at Crocosaurus Cove, or get the adrenaline flowing with a jet ski trip across crystal blue Darwin Harbour. Those who prefer lower-octane options can try a famous laksa – the Malaysian soup locals enjoy any time of the day, including breakfast – or go for a relaxing sunset cruise along the pristine coastline.
