Film stars will descend on Dubrovnik early next year, as the medieval city becomes the set for another blockbuster.

Robin Hood: Origins will start filming in January 2017 in the southern Dalmatian city. Leonardo di Caprio is the film's A-list producer, and its starry cast is rumoured to include Taron Egerton (as Robin Hood) and Jamie Foxx (as little John).

The last Robin Hood film, which starred Russell Crowe, may have only been released in 2010, but next year's offering is set to put a gritty spin on the familiar tale. While the story of the benevolent outlaw takes Nottingham as its setting, the archaic walls and seascapes in the Croatian coastal city will probably lend the film a little more drama than the English city can muster.

Dubrovnik is becoming a Hollywood regular - in March this year, Star Wars: Episode VIII was filmed on its streets, as was Bollywood movie The Fan, while wildly popular HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones is so closely associated with the city that visitors flock there solely to follow in Jon Snow's footsteps.
