Valais Drink Pure International Alphorn Festival

If you're looking for an idioyncratic Swiss experience, head to the Valais town of Nendaz to watch some 200 alphorn players battle it out in an international alphorn festival staged in the mountains above the village. Around 12,000 spectators turn up to enjoy the music, dancing and flag waving in what has become a major annual event, turning Nendaz into the alphorn capital of Switzerland.
