In the run up to ‘Godzilla Resurgence’ hitting movie theatres, we have seen many Godzilla-themed events and venues pop up around town, with an onsen now jumping on the bandwagon. The Ota Kuroyu Onsen has recently unveiled their new murals featuring the not-so-friendly giant Godzilla, menacingly superimposed on hitherto tranquil scenes of mountains and lakes.

The fantastic murals were created by Japan’s one and only professional female onsen painter, Mizuki Tanaka and it appears Tanaka's monster is well traveled, appearing in murals depicting Haneda airport, Tama river, Ikegami Honmonji Temple and Ota prefecture. Though you'll need to be butt-naked to see the murals inside the onsen, there's no need to feel vulnerable since the Big G has promised to behave this time.

Considering it has been 12 years since the last Japanese Godzilla film came out, expectations are high on helmsman Hideaki Anno's addition to the long running franchise. We suggest a visit to Ota Kuroyu Onsen while the murals are still up until late October.
