Time Out says

A groundbreaking 2008 hip hop doc from 'Selma' director, Ava DuVernay.

This award-winning documentary charts a group of teens who began to meet weekly at the Good Life, a health food store in South Central Los Angeles, back in the late 80s. It was here that they aimed to push the boundaries of hip hop, breaking new ground musically but in a safe and positive environment - and, famously, with a prominent ban on profanities.

It was this movement that spawned the careers of some of the genre's hugest starts, with members of Jurassic 5, Freestyle Fellowship and the project Blowed Collective revered as some of its best known alumni.

This film is shown as part of 'Come The Revolution', a series of screenings, discussions and events marking the 50th anniversary of Alex Haley’s seminal biography on Malcolm X, whilst also reflecting on the Civil Rights movement and its many icons.
