Wholly Moses! (1980)
Director: Gary Weis
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
An opportunistic attempt to cash in on the diminutive Moore's post-10 stardom by shamelessly ripping off the premise of The Life of Brian. Here we have, instead of the Gospels, a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Promised Land, with Moore cast as the character denied his rightful place in Biblical history by some upstart called Moses. The director of Saturday Night Live opts for a comic style which falls uneasily between the New American anarchic comic farce and that pioneered by the 'Python' team. A string of promising cameos (DeLuise, Kahn, Pryor) none of which come off, and an underwritten script leave one very unsatisfied. Cecil B DeMille was cubits more comical than anything on show here.Author: RM
