Out of Time (2003)
Director: Carl Franklin
Movie review
From Time Out Film Guide
This fetid Florida Keys cop thriller tries for the insouciant snap of an Elmore Leonard or Walter Mosley crime riff, but facts are it's from a less than original first time screenplay, and runs out of steam a third of the way in. At least there's some zing at the beginning, with Washington's easy-going Detective Matt Whitlock and Lathan's sultry mistress Anne Harrison turning on the juice after hours. They've certainly more spark than Washington ever manages with Mendes as his estranged missus Alex, a budding police inspector who pitches up on his beat when an explosion at the Harrison cabin leaves two charred bodies and a money trail back to Matt. Can he uncover the true tracks before his colleagues uncover his? Hard to care with so little wit or sizzle in the script, and so little energy in the action scenes.Author: NB

- Posted on Sep 23 2009 02:08 I disagree with the review - I thought Mendez was delicious as was Lathan and Washington was as good as usual. Mendez just sparkles - she's a hot shot. Maybe it was a corny script in some ways but I liked it because of those three.
