Not a patch upon Loach's best work, largely because he falls into all the usual traps of kitchen sink realism as he follows the fortunes of a dismal teenage girl (White), saddled with a criminal husband (Bindon, typecast), living with a prostitute aunt (Watts) while he's inside, falling for the husband's mate (Stamp), then going back to the aunt and further troubles when he gets nicked too. Relentlessly sordid, and not helped by the unusual move (for Loach) of using name actors.Author: GA
