  Posted on May 23 2011 09:12 I loved this film! Not sure what the reviewer is talking about. Granted, the time constraints of the movie mean - as is often the case with adaptations of novels - that the books central tensions and plot twists lose a bit of impact. But a fantastic performance from Matthew McConaughey, and a thoroughly enjoyable, clever thriller.

  Posted on Apr 05 2011 00:26 l am a sucker for corporate America films,ie lawyers,financiers and deal makers.This is one such film and overall it is an enjoyable and mostly engrossing romp.
  The opening 20 mins is set out to show the greed of this lawyer by deceiving his own clients,but it is too caracatured and excessive, lacking subtlety.Then the film is terrific as the plot moves on at a pace.
  However being a Hollywood film it is spoilt by introducing too much intricacy,too much sub plot and too many over layers of intrique.in order to contrive an ending.
  The film ends up a mess and a parody of it's self.The lead role is weak as there is no depth and lacks conviction in his role.
  The film Michael Clayton with Tilda Swinton towers head and shoulders above this effort for power,thrills and simplicity,but it's as good as Hollwood will allow

  Posted on Mar 31 2011 22:11 This film is based on a good book but is let down by some bad scripting and some really uninspiring acting. Matthew McConnaughey proves himself to be a poor leading actor, offering very little in terms of emotional range and settles for a bland, arrogantly detached persona that you find impossible to care about. The script is peppered by some awful dialogue and is uninspiring, overly straight and boring. If it was an original film it would deserve three stars but as it steals its best bits from a book it can only deserve two.

  Posted on Mar 31 2011 22:06 Enjoyed this film. Joshua's mean-spirited review is surely an insult to his own intelligence. This film tries to tell a story without gratuitous violence and McConaughey's peformance is excellent.

  Posted on Mar 23 2011 06:34 For a lawyer who rides around LA in a car with the registration plate “NTGUILTY”, Matthew McConaughey’s certainly culpable of appearing in a movie that trots out every legal cliché you can think of. At times the clichés are offensive, and at other times plain boring. At one point one of the guys in the row in front of me got out his smart phone and continued playing a game – I can’t say I blamed him. I felt like asking him to pass it around so everyone had a chance to relieve their boredom.

  There are desperately bad loopholes in the storyline. McConaughey’s supposed to be playing a legal high flyer everyone wants to hire as their defence lawyer. He keeps his old clients’ files at home in clearly marked boxes. At least one of those clients is in jail for murder, yet McConaughey’s character has no intruder alarm system or CCTV on his home, and only a single lock on his glass panelled front door. Needless to say it’s not long before a couple of characters break in and “surprise” him. Trust me, you’ll want to groan.

  Time Out’s Joshua Rothkopf is right – this movie feels like it was generated from some left over scripts from the Rockford Files. One star.

  Posted on Mar 21 2011 17:15 I've just got back from the cinema and I'm wondering if I saw the same film as the reviewer. The Lincoln Lawyer I saw was a clever, intriguing and well-acted piece of work. I haven't read the book so had no idea what to expect. Anyone looking for a good legal thriller for adults with plenty of twists and turns should give this film a whirl. (And no, Time Out, I don't remember the Rockford Files, but if they were as good as this film, I might look up the dvd.)
