Time Out says

A spiffing WWII adventure in which a US intelligence officer (Garner) is kidnapped by Nazis, and subjected to an elaborate plot to make him hink that D-Day happened five years ago, so that he will give away vital invasion secrets. It might have been even more spiffing had the audience been kept hoodwinked for as long as Garner. But Seaton's inventive script keeps it going beautifully as a sort of cat-and-mouse game in which Garner tells the Nazis (Taylor and Peters) all they need to know, is horrified to discover the deception (through an ingenious, carefully planted detail), but realises that they don't quite believe him... Highly enjoyable.
