Possibly the longest-serving and arguably the greatest of British cinematographers, Jack Cardiff was also one of the most technically innovative and, in a career stretching from the silent  era, through the great Powell-Pressburger movies to ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’ and beyond, the most widely experienced lighting cameraman ever to emanate from these shores. In a fine and well-illustrated course through the unassuming meastro’s life and work, director McCall calls on Martin Scorsese, Kirk Douglas and Kathleen Byron among others to comment on Cardiff's inspirational work (which included a passionate amateur painting career and a dozen films as director) and gentlemanly demeanour.
