Cecil B. Demented

Time Out saysThis spirited comic assault on the Hollywood mainstream begins with the visit to Baltimore of pampered Honey Whitlock (Griffith) for the charity premiere of her latest movie, an event which swiftly turns into a riot when the diva is kidnapped by a bunch of celluloid guerillas who force her to star in their own underground flick, under the direction of messianic Cecil B Demented (Dorff). You can't help cheering on these film-obsessive counter-insurgents as they attack their local multiplex and make a stand against Tinseltown mediocrity, but Waters' cause would be better served if the film were faster, funnier and graced with performances which brought more zip to the unfolding lunacy. Likeable, but ultimately disappointing.
