Cowtown, Montana, and Clay Bidwell's life is about to turn pear shaped. First his best friend shoots himself over an infidelity argument; then the girl at the centre of it all blows away his sleeping partner; and that's even before Clay (Phoenix) is befriended by Stetson-wearing newcomer Lester Long (Vaughn), a sweet-talking charmer who's a little, shall we say, unhinged. Pretty soon, bodies are a-mountin' and it looks like Clay'll be taking the rap. This quirky comedy thriller, produced by Ridley Scott, is both blackly funny and, at times, tensely disturbing and quite macabre.
