Time Out says

A modest British romp gets a Hollywood makeover a mere two years later: what’s the story there? Well, solid situation-comedy scenarios are obviously at a premium, so Craig Dean’s fairly traditional farce gets an LA redo, with Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence replacing Matthew Macfadyen and Rupert Graves as warring siblings enduring their father’s chaotic funeral. Hence, the humour takes an uptight social situation and unleashes serial indignities upon it – from mislabelled acid tablets, naked people, splattering bowel movements and even a mystery guest in the compact form of Peter Dinklage (the only actor in both versions). Some of this is crude, much of it predictable, but it is a crowd-pleaser, since director Neil LaBute’s performers willingly play it that bit broader, while an expanded budget brings a somewhat less poky feel. Although it still only just gets away with sundry homophobic and size-ist gags, there’s a tad more zing than the original, though if you caught that already, be warned: this is a scene-for-scene retread.

dont agree with funniest film since hangover(that has a crown of its own) i didnt think it was up to much.watchable! martin lawrence was funnier than chris rock 6/10

GPR

Well it was very good. It was almost totally identical to the original which really does beg the question "why?", but will therefore hopefully make the writers a bit more cash as obviously an American film will get far better promotion than any British film.

Mal

This was the worst film I have ever, ever, ever seen. Just not funny.

scrumpyjack

It LOOKED feeble. its not. Its a rock (no pun) solid comedy of the type so rare since the gross out/teens shagging pies sort took over in the last 10 years. A total joy. 8/10

Harry

Couldn't have enjoyed it more, the writing is superb, laughs are well paced and spread throughout, and the actors pull off their comedy marks without a single step wrong, Fantastic.

I don't laugh that easily at comedies but this one got to me. I believe the member of the cast that stloe the show was the guy that unknowingly ingested the acid. His facial expressions were quite priceless. This film was not THAT bad as to receive so many horrible comments. Seems like a secret conspiracy is happening here. And I think Ashley meant "pathetic". I think her spelling might match her taste in films.

Lydia

Rented this on dvd last weekend, was an incredible waste of time and money...just awful.

Ann

My daughter and I had several good screaming laughs, and didn't mind the weak points. As a rental movie, we weren't expecting too much, and we were thoroughly entertained. Enjoyed all the actors, and the country setting.

Just caught up with this one on DVD. It's polarised audiences everywhere as far as I can see. My point of view from this Sydney living room - let me tell you, this is one horribly feeble film. Laugh? If you find Benny Hill, On the Buses and Dad's Army a scream, then you'll love it. But not for me. Lame, predictable, embarrassing - more torture in 90 minutes than I experienced even with Russian Ark, my previous low water mark. I don't think I even smiled once, let alone laugh, which you'd have to say is significant for a comedy.

Andrew

I saw the film on a business trip to Aus and can't wait to see it again - I'm still chuckling weeks afterwards. It's not a complicated film, but then old-fashioned French farces seldom are. Well worthwhile.

Wow! Seriously the worst film i've ever seen - and I've seen plenty of howlers. Only see if you want to witness first-hand the depths to which a (mostly good) cast can plummet, and come out all looking terrible, except possibly Daisy Donovan, who is about the only decent thing in this wretched movie. What were Time Out thinking in their review of this film? Did they really see the same film I have just had the misfortune to have witnessed. Tosh. And that is a praise too much. A sad and safe waste of time and money. No more like this, please!

Nick

This was fantsctic fun and I can't recommend highly enough. Far better the the usual 'best comedy' with one funny clip used for the trailer drose on offer most on the time

This is a very poor film indeed. I walked away from the cinema very disappointed.

If you thought this summer's 'Knocked Up' US spawned comedy block buter to be an overrated load of tosh then you will enjoy this home bred black comedy, Death At A Funeral. This is classic British 'Ealing' comedy at its modern best with an all British Cast too. What more can one say. Amusing to watch, highly improbable, yet at times plausible considering the eccentricity of being British, You will leave the auditoriam smiling!

Great British Comedy, definitely a laugh a minute. Although the title doesn't give anything away about the actual film, don't be put of. Have patience give it 10 minutes and the film will not fail to have you rolling around in your seats. I wouldn't trust anyone that watched this film and didn't laugh out loud. With only one relatively crude scene the rest is just hilarious. Frank Oz is a legend!

this film contained a great and very funny storyline to go with it. The acting and actors were top notch. An overall great comedy and it is worth seeing.

Went to see this film not really sure what to expect. I'll cut to the chase- I found myself quite enjoying it, although some of the jokes got old quite quickly (namely the hallucinogenic joke), and the plot and jokes were painfully predictable, it was still a laugh. Not in the same league as Pegg and Frost's offerings however non-the-less a reasonable stab at the brit-com.

Julie

Went and saw this film, not really knowing what to expect, except a black comedy. Well it certainly delivered. Typical British farce and why not. It built up slowly, drawing you along a fairly predictable plot. But that just added to the fun. It became a true laugh out loud experience. An enjoyable film.

Trite, poorly written, acted and directed. The script is so obvious that you always know what's coming next. A waste of time for the cast and audience alike. Very poor.

Jenna

A brilliant British comedy altough what else can you expcect with actrors such as Jane Asher and Peter Vaughan. Lost of laughs highly recommended

I really enjoyed "Death at a Funeral" and laughed all the way through. Admittedly there are some parts that are a bit cringing, but there is some great acting and very funny moments. Don't go expecting too much and you could really enjoy it.

I thought the film 'Death at a Funeral' by viewing the trailer clip looks very mysterious and I will definitely go and see it.

A bit of a slow start, although there are funny bits along the way to the truly funny stuff. Unfortunately in the audience I saw this with, there were people leaving the theatre when not immediately assaulted with gags. Don't be tempted to leave though, because the outrageous stuff does come and when it does it just keeps coming. Good casting, workable direction, and some memorable gross outs - enough for everyone to be entertained at some point or another.

i'm still laughing hours after seeing this film. i'm too uptight usually to like comedies of manners, but a friend wanted to go. i'm glad i went along. it's the funniest movie i've seen all year. even the most vulgar scene had me laughing out loud as did the "death" of the movie's title. the largely unknow-to-americans ensemble worked very well, especially donavan, tudyk, and dinklage. it may not be a date movie, but it's definitely worth seeing.
